Established Breeding Group
UPDATE! The first
baby of the season has arrived! We welcomed
a healthy baby boy to the colony on November 18, 2007!!!
He was weaned off his momma on November 29th and
is now being bottle raised. He'll be going to live
with his new family when he turns 8 weeks old.
Our main breeding group consists
of 1 Male and 5 Females, all small variety kinkajous.
Their ages range from 2 to 4 years old. This group was
acquired from World Exotics in Florida in August of
2006.
This is a great group, and while
none of the breeders are "tame", they will
usually be more than happy to take a piece of banana
from your hand. They are not aggressive, and will always
avoid confrontation by moving out of your way.
This group has produced 2 babies
for us in a little over a year, which is pretty much
unheard of. Usually wild mammals need at least a year
just to adjust to a new setting, but this group started
breeding only 2 months after arrival. We have seen a
lot of breeding activity this fall, and would expect
to see some babies in February.
